The unique profile of an Asscher cut diamond has a rectangular-faceted pavilion and similar in appearance to the emerald cut. The standard number of facets is usually 58 and the typical ratio for Asscher cuts is1.00 to 1.05, very similar to the Princess Cut.

The width of the beveled corners varies along with the pavilion, faceted culet, high crown and small table. The Asscher cut is bright and faces up extremely well for a style of ‘Step Cut’  In fact the refraction of light within a well cut stone resembles that of a ‘parlour of mirrors’  A it’s also worth noting the recommended specifications of a well cut stone. Table percentage of 60% and 73.5% and Pavilion percentages of 51 – 77% .

Known on diamond certification certificates as a ‘Square Emerald cut’ by GIA, AGS and others.  Quiet there is confusion with buyers and some jewelers whether the cuts of an Asscher and a Square Emerald are different? In fact they are the same cut.  Just to clarify, there is a patented version known as a ‘Royal Asscher cut.  This cut has a total of 74 facets and slightly wider corners.  The GIA will certify this cut as an ‘Octagonal Step Cut’
